I'm sure many of you already realized that Parker and Isla Grace were at the hospital for the birth of their child. Isla Grace obviously has some control over her changes - even while in labor.
Chapter 3 will really start to get us into the meat of our story - the heroics of Professor Amazing and The Incredible Golden Fox.

The doctor and nurses were focused elsewhere. Basically, Isla Grace had to let a little fox out in order to avoid letting a lot of fox out. This was just one instance when Parker let her know the coast was clear, and that she could let off some steam for a moment while the medical folks weren't looking. Of course, he required some protection to do so. :)
Hospital policies can vary widely. Some would absolutely refuse to allow labor to take place without a doctor or nurse present. However, "Mother Knows Best" is becoming an increasingly accepted attitude within many institutions, so that if the mother insisted she wanted to be "Alone with her Husband" during the actual birth, they would oblige and step outside, but remain within earshot outside the door.
That said, given the 'unusual' circumstances, it probably would have been more prudent to find a very experienced, trustworthy and dicreet Doula to oversee Homebirth for all three, rather than risk expposure in a public Hospital, IMHO.
A doula would have probably been the way to go, but neither of them were very well off money-wise. Not sure how expensive one is, but I can't imagine they'd be able to afford one (plus the necessary hush money to go with it). :)
I do wonder if Isla Grace passed on any abilities, though it may not manifest until the children themselves are adults. I can't help but think that shapeshifting while pregnant would have some effect on the baby.
I do wonder what she looked like in her fox form while nearing the end of her pregnancy...
I speculate that she would probably resemble a fox wrapped around a beach ball, unless the unborn child would be "altered" by her transformation somehow...

at first i thought "mr. pokey the glove" was for isla's hand, not parker's.
one more thing, was there no doctor in the room? no one is freaking out about the sudden orange eyes and hairy hands.
